As of late we have not been out on the boat too often for various reasons so my sailing posts have not been as frequent so I thought I would put a post up about what has been keeping me busy and what will in part be keeping me busy through the quieter months of the sailing calendar - namely I will be studying for the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator certification. I have already brought a set of books for the core requirements - in total over 3200 pages!!! That should certainly keep me busy for a while.

It was that time of year again last Saturday for the annual Carey Olsen pursuit race to Alderney from Guernsey. We where placed 22 out of 51 with a start time of just after 1PM. On the day we had a good south west wind behind us which made for a pretty quick time of 2 hours and 27 minutes with the spinnaker up all the way. We managed to hit a peak speed of 12.7 knots according to our GPS when surfing down waves and for most of the race where seeing speeds in excess of 9 knots. We managed to overtake quite a few other boats and only get overtaken by one - a Melges who pipped us as we neared the line after they had been hitting 20 knots on the way up, so it was a solid result for us all round topped off with a few beers in the Alderney Sailing Club afterwards courtesy of Carey Olsen’s beer vouchers!

The journey back home the next day was fairly relaxed with a good breeze and calm seas once we got past the south of Alderney with a game of I spy for entertainment before a fry up at the Blue Moon Cafe which I must add was much better than the Boathouse as previously discussed!
